Canadian citizens have more rights than that of a permanent resident. Their status is more protected and cannot be deported as permanent residents are. Citizens have the right to vote.

Permanent Residents can apply for Canadian citizenship if they meet the residency requirements that is – present in Canada for at least 1,095 days within the past 5 years, they can apply for citizenship. Along with the application, they should submit their proof of filing income tax. Applicants between 18 to 54 years of age must provide the proof of language skills and pass the citizenship test.

One can also become Canadian Citizen if :
  • He is born in Canada.
  • Minor child can receive citizenship along with parent or legal guardian.
  • Child is born outside Canada, but either parent is naturalised or Canadian born citizen.
